Sardine Run 2010     01/08/2010

The annual run of millions of sardines from the cold oceans surrounding Cape Point in South Africa up towards the warmer waters around the Transkei and Kwa-Zulu Natal on the north eastern coast occurs between June/July each year.

During the run, which typically lasts a couple of weeks, these massive shoals of sardines can actually be seen from satellites in outer space and can span nearly fifteen kilometres in length by forty kilometres deep.

For these few weeks some divers may be lucky enough to join in this magnificent spectacle, diving amongst the throng of shoaling fish and the dolphins, sharks, game fish and whales that accompany the migration to enjoy feasting on the smaller fish.

The sardine run this year was no exception and proved as spectacular as ever, and offered lucky spectators the opportunity to see some of the most impressive and beautiful sea creatures in the same place at the same time. If you are interested in your own sardine run adventure please contact us for more information, as we can tailor make a package to your requirements and make taking part in this natural phenomenon a reality for you too.
