Sodwana Bay
Diving at Sodwana Bay

Sodwana Bay boasts a wider variety of marine life than the Great Barrier Reef, and with sealife so abundant you are sure to see something both breathtaking and amazing.

There are four main reefs in Sodwana; two mile, five mile, seven mile and nine mile reefs (their name indicating their distance from the shore), and each has it’s own charm and individual character.

Depending on the season whale sharks and dolphins can be found abundantly in the area, and if you are lucky enough to see them on the way to a dive the skipper will stop the boat for you to get a better view – if possible you may even be invited to swim with them.

Sealife common to the region includes; whales, numerous types of shark including hammerhead, ragged tooth, tiger and great white sharks, many varieties of eels, turtles, rays, octopuses and too many species of fish to mention.

Please note that a R20 per day (accurate as of February 2009) conservation levy is required to gain access to the beach as it is part of a nature reserve, so please take a little cash when you visit the beach for diving or other excursions.
