Hluhluwe Game Reserve
Introduction
Hluhluwe Game Reserve is the oldest game reserve in Africa, where Zulu kings used to hunt and enforced the first conservation laws. The reserve was established in 1895 and is home to all members of the Big 5 (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino), as well as a wide host of smaller but equally stunning animals.
In the 1950s and 1960s the park became world famous for its conservation of the white rhino population, which now thrives within the reserve. The park covers 96,000 hectares and is characteristic because of its numerous hills, and is noted for the wide variety of both bird and animal species living there.
